| I'm in South Korea with one of my best friends who is meeting her real parents for the first time in 25 years!!! AND my other best friend/roommate from college LIVES here... so I finally get to meet her world. So far I have been truly BLOWN AWAY by some of the things I've experienced...
~seeing the orphanage two floors below our residence, which holds up to 40 babies at a time and is taken care of by over 10 nurses at all times ~seeing protestors in the streets standing up for North Korean rights ~Korean women's emphasis on clothing, styles, and make-up ~being forced to feel like a stupid foreigner in a situation yesterday over which I had no control... and am THANKFUL for it because of how maybe sometimes I look at people in the US who don't know my language and don't understand my culture; I want to change my heart and now HONOR them for making it to America and TRYING to live in their new world ~being with MY TWO VERY BEST FRIENDS and laughing so hard til our stomachs hurt, having deep conversations about things we've experienced since we've last seen each other, and understanding the sweetness of lifelong friendship ~COMMUNICATION verbals/nonverbals and the fun it brings to try and understand and be understood by people on the other side of the world

| wisdom: the ability to see life from God's perspective and have character to act accordingly. Lord, give me wisdom. | | |
| | this morning i was assigned 4 patients. one of them, john...who's somewhat mentally disabled, has been trached and vented (on a breathing machine not able to speak or swallow) for the last five weeks. he has multiple infections, so everytime you go into his room you have to gown and glove up... even to give him morphine every four hours or to reposition him every two hours. just a lotta hard work... and today john said some of his first words working with the speech therapist... he looked at my eyes and and slowly slured out tthhhaannnk yooooo. it meant the world to me. my second patient had several pints of blood and other digestive things being suctioned out of his system all day and was scheduled for exploratory surgery tonight at 8pm. there had to be 20 family members in and out and many had questions and worries and fears. this guy was told by the surgeon that he had a 50/50 chance to make it. i sent him to surgery just before i clocked out and held my eyes shut as i prayed trying to imagine what this family was going through. my third and fourth patients i sent home. the young one invited me out for drinks...which you just have to ignore, and the older one explained to me how lovely and beautiful his wife was who passed away over a decade ago. before the day ended, i had an unexpected visitor who was a granddaughter of the 100 year old lady i took care of last week. i really connected with this family but was so sad to read her obituary in the paper this monday. amazing that God brought this granddaughter back up to our floor because i got to stand and cry with her over her loss and got to hug her and tell her how courageous and what a fighter her dear grandmother was. you could definitely say that this is exactly where the Lord wants me...and i'm blessed to watch Him confirm it everyday of my life! |

Unless you try to do something beyond what you've already mastered, you'll never grow. When I ran the Chicago Half Marathon with some friends a few weeks ago, I knew I had to give credit to the One who gave me victory... And what was amazing was that when I wore this verse on my back, about 20 runners came alongside and said things like, "Amen sister, that's right..." or "I believe our God is big enough..." One lady even ran with me for a mile or so and told me her entire testimony of where God has brought her! It has been quite a journey to live at home these last couple of months and work full time as a nurse. I have loved traveling this road, but it hasn't been what I expected. Many of the amazing people in my life are now long-distant friends... and God has answered a lot of prayer by connecting me up with awesome people locally through a few different worship services that meet weekly... and getting plugged in at work---which I have had so much fun doing It astounds me how much we need consistent fellowship in our lives... | | |
| home from california
the constant fellowship of 32 fun-loving, incredibly genuine, authentic
followers of Christ was absolutely amazing!! we grew together in
all dimensions... our days started off with two hours at coffee shops
just to spend time with God... then seminars on topics such as
evangelism, ethics, disciple-making, impacting your city, finances,
personal testimonies of christian physicians and their practice, how to
study the Word, really listening to God... then lunch with the team...
then in the afternoons were filled with excitement as we went into the
hospitals and put into practice what we were learning as we interacted
with patients (taking spiritual assessments, praying with them, talking
through end-of-life issues), shadowed physicians and watched how they
spiritually cared for their clients, or we were scheduled to meet with
our mentors one-on-one to talk through all kinds of areas of growth...
for dinner, we would sometimes go out---which usually consisted of
eating sushi, golden spoon, in&out, and drinking bubble tea... but nighttimes were awesome
as well because we usually met with our small groups and worked through
a Bible study for personal growth while there. WHEW!!! so
it was absolutely packed... but we were given just enough time to
process through all the things God was teaching us AND have late night
laughs and talks with our teammates
we also did a weekend in mexico and came alongside physicians and
dentists who set up clinics with the most primitive resources and LOVED
on those patients like crazy---seriously authentic men who live every
day out with a vitality that spurs on everyone they come into contact
with!! if we weren't at the clinics, we were building a house for
this couple who was to be married the next day and were going to get to start their new home together!
during the weekends we traveled to beverly hills & bel-air &
rodeo drive, santa monica & buca di beppo, los angelos &
hollywood & the chinese&kodak theaters, disneyland (where i
actually saw some of the nurses i graduated with after the
fireworks show!), la jolla beach, torrey pines, cornado beach & san
diego, lake gregory where parent trap was filmed, and grace community
with john macarthur.
if you didn't get something from me in the mail and want to find out
more about the solid truths of awesome things the Lord taught us, email
me (emilyjmoser@gmail.com) and let me know because my team made a
newsletter and i'd love to send you one! there are also practical
things i've learned that i want to do in my everyday practice as a
nurse... so if any of you are medically minded, i'd love to send you
that too!! it's SO good to be back... and i cannot wait until i
start working as a nurse in just two weeks!!! dozens of people
came to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior throughout our
trip... and that excites my heart like nothing else... but i'm also
thrilled that 32 of us are walking back into our own mission fields all
around the united states... thanks to all of you for praying for me
while out there!!!
